Where is Heidelberg? I you look at the map above you will see that Heidelberg is situated in the southern part of the Gauteng province in South Africa. When travelling from Pretoria or Johannesburg towards Durban you will go past Heidelberg which is about 50 KM south of Johannesburg and close to the De Hoek Toll plaza on the N3 highway.

The Suikerbosrand Nature reserve can be found next to Heidelberg if your looking for accommodation you can always book into the Suikerbosrand Hotel or the Heidelberg Kloof lodge .

Tourism attractions in the area include: Suikerbos Rand, AG Visser House, Diepkloof Farm museum, Concentration Camp Cemetery and the Klipkerk. Heidelberg has had it’s share of historical activity with it being the Capital of the Boer Republic during the First war of Independence in the late 1800’s. This was also one of the sites where concentration camps where built during the Second Boer war. The famous Afrikaans Poet AG Visser practiced as a local doctor in town and the AG Visser House can still be visited today.
