Home » S.T.A.R. Walk protest march

The S.T.A.R. Walk is a protest march against rape and sexual abuse of women, men and children. The event will open with speakers such as Jessie Duarte (ANC), John Moodey (DA), Karmilla Pillay-Siokos (Slutwalk International) and Martin Pelders (MatrixMen). Thereafter we will do a 3-km walk through the streets of Greenside (route approved by JMPD).

Organisations can walk under their own banners and individuals should please bring their own posters protesting against rape and sexual abuse. The S.T.A.R. Walk support base includes, the ANC, the DA, Slutwalk Johannesburg (part of the international Slutwalk movement), MatrixMen (part of the Sensible Choices group), African Feminism, the TEARS Foundation, Women and Men Against Child Abuse, Crimon Monash and the EPIC Foundation.

S.T.A.R. Walk calls on all people to stop pretending that rape is an issue that can be dealt with during Women’s Month and the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign. We must also recognize that rapists and sexual abusers target women, men and children. It is a daily struggle against this scourge in our society. any form of sex without consent is rape. It is wrong. We will no longer blame the victims. We will no longer protect the rapists. We will no longer be divided in this fight.

The aim of S.T.A.R. Walk is to provide a platform where everybody who is opposed to rape can equally speak out against this crime that we can no longer afford to sweep under the carpet. We need to act now. We need to act together. We must Stand Together Against Rape.
